![]() If you choose the wrong one, some of the more advanced features that lured you to Altium may not work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. In Altium Designer, there are many ways to set up your project for hierarchical design. I don't particularly care for Altium, but I'd certainly recommend it above v17.4. ![]() They are not responsive to user feedback either so don't even bother. Really bad! I could go on and on but I'll stop here. If you want to back annotate a schematic from another PCB software (we use PADS), Orcad v17.4 cannot back annotate any longer from anybody else's package. For example if you want to update a part from your library, watch out! It won't update the new part number so you need to manually edit any part(s) you update of the BOM will be incorrect. Strict Hierarchical will tell you that neither Ports nor Power objects are global, you will need to connect every signal through a port (this can be useful for designs with multiple separated power section if you're using Altium's multichannel feature). It's still has bugs left over from years ago. The widows do not expand when you want to choose a component to place so you need to work in a tiny window and scroll, scroll scroll (I have hundreds of parts to choose from even with over 20 libraries). Not only does it bog down my system and run much slower, often when I run a command, there is a noticeable delay before execution. Orcad's latest version is a blatant attempt to mimic Altium and get some of their business.
